When it comes to earning points on hotel stays, 3x points is the standard… for premium travel credit cards. Both the Chase Sapphire Reserve and the Citi Prestige only offer that baseline of 3x points. The only card that earns more in this space is the American Express Platinum card. Of course, you will have to do prepaid hotels through Amextravel, their travel portal, but still.
What if there was a way you could get the same sort of 5x points through Chase cards? Well, you may be in luck with Chase’s new offer for Freedom and Freedom Unlimited cards.
Check your Freedom and Freedom Unlimited logins. There is an offer inside of the Ultimate Reward portal that is pretty rewarding, especially if you happen to have an Ultimate Reward card to transfer the points to.
No matter which flavor of the Freedom card you have, you can get 5% back for booking a hotel in the month of March 2020. The hotel stay itself can be after March, however, it must be booked in March.
The other important aspect about the offer is that it will only work if you pay for the room in cash. If you use points then you would not be eligible. Additionally, you must book the room through the Ultimate Reward portal to get the 5%.
As we all know, the real benefit of this offer is if you are able to convert the cashback to Ultimate Reward points by having a card that earns Ultimate Reward points such as the Sapphire Reserve. While the Sapphire Reserve only earns you 3x, with this offer, you would technically be earning 5x.
The only downsides is that you have to book through the Ultimate Reward portal, and you need to pay in cash. Still, this could be a pretty neat opportunity for you to get some last minute deals on a hotel.
Do you think you would be able to use this deal? How do you feel about booking a room o a Freedom or Freedom Unlimited card? Let us know down in the comment section below.
