If you signed up for an American Express card before the coronavirus was in full swing, it would be understandable that your spending is severely limited. Even if you had every intention of spending a ton of money, with many people losing their jobs, and with shutdowns being very prevalent, it may be hard for some to spend a ton of money, let a lone any at all.
The News
If you are stuck in this loop, American Express is here to give you some relief in regards to their sign up bonuses. If you have signed up for an American Express card inbetween December 1, 2019 and May 31, 2020, American Express will extend the time you’re eligible for a sign up bonus. Meaning, if you normally had 3 months to meet a sign up bonus, you’ll now have 6. These changes should be automatic, and apply to both personal and business cards. The only exception to this rule is upgrade offers, which are not eligible at this time.
“Due to the impact of COVID-19 for eligible Card accounts approved from December 1, 2019 through May 31, 2020 for which you are eligible for a welcome offer, the period to make eligible purchase to earn your welcome bonus, will be extended for an additional 3 months. Eligible Cards are U.S. Consumer and Business Cards issued by American Express National Bank to a Basic Card Member.”
Final Thoughts
In tough times like these, it’s great to see both consumer and company band together to fight a common enemy. In this case, American Express is out there giving us a better opportunity to meet the minimum spending requirement, up to 6 months! That can really make the difference if someone lost their job, or they realistically don’t have anywhere to even spend it, with business being closed.
