Whoever said there aren’t surprises in the credit card world didn’t pay attention to Bank of America! Sonesta and Bank of America have teamed up to create a new co-branded card. The details of the card are outlined below:
Credit Card Summary
First and foremost, you will be eligible for a 60,000 point sign up bonus if you spend $1,000 within the first 3 months. The Sonesta Hotel card comes with an annual fee of $75 which is waived in the first year. The reward categories are listed below:
- 3x: Sonesta Hotel purchases
- 2x: Airfare, car rentals, and dining
- 1x: Every other purchases
In addition to the reward categories, you will automatically earn Travel Pass Elite Member Status. There is also an anniversary bonus of 30,000 points if you spend $7,500 within the year.
You can redeem the points for free nights, here is the award chart for the Sonesta hotels:
- Tier 1: 15,000
- Tier 2: 17,500
- Tier 3: 20,000
- Tier 4: 22,500
- Tier 5: 25,000
- Tier 6: 27,500
- Tier 7: 30,000
- Tier 8: 40,000
- Tier 9: 50,000
It’s a little tricky to accurately predict how much the points are worth. Based on the peak/off peak pricing, I would estimate that the price would be around 0.66 cents per point. We will need more time to accurately depict how much value you can get from these points though!
It’s a pretty interesting move to see Bank of America launch a hotel credit card with a brand that isn’t all that big. But of course, I always love competition. Receiving 30,000 points for renewing the card (and spending $7,500) is good for a tier 7 hotel which isn’t bad by any means!
Of course, if you don’t frequent the hotels often, it may not be worth it for you to grab this card, as you could always earn more on a different travel credit card.
