For those of you that are interested in the AirFrance/KLM card from Bank of America, this could be an interesting time for you to do so. There is an alternative offer that some people are seeing which could make the card more accessible/valuable.
The Offer
If you go and make a dummy booking on AirFrance or KLM, you may be seeing this new limited time offer. The offer is 25,000 Points + $150 in statement credit after spending $1,000. The annual fee of $89 is not waived in the first year
Card Summary
As a reminder, the card offers a $89 annual fee. It earns:
- 3x on AirFrance/KLM and other Skyteam members
- 1.5x Everywhere Else
Upon getting approved, you will earn 60XP. Every year thereafter, you will earn 20XP. You have the potential to earn an additional 40XP within the same year if you spend $15000 or more within the cardmember year. Finally, you’ll also get 5,000 points on every anniversary.
Final Thoughts
Current offer on website is 50,000 points after spending $2,000. If we value the points at 1.2 cents per point (TPG), then that would make the 50,000 point sign up bonus worth $600 for $2,000 spend. This offer here is worth $450 after spending $1,000. Is the extra $150 worth the extra $1,000? That entirely depends on you and your situation. That being said, the 50,000 is the public offer, which is actually easier to get than making a dummy booking and hoping that this offer comes up. But, on the other hand, if we aren’t able to fly anywhere for a while, then getting the $150 in statement credit could make more sense right now.
