At this point in time, this is just a rumor! However, it looks like British Airways is making some changes to its partner award redemptions. These changes are set to be live on May 30th, 2019.
The Changes
Currently, when it comes to British Airways’ flights, the amount of points required for a flight depends on the distance of the flight. The current point values and what they will change to are listed down below:
Milage | Current | Change |
0-650 Miles | 4,500 Avios | 6,000 Avios |
651-1,150 | 7,500 Avios | 9,000 Avios |
1,151-2,000 | 10,000 Avios | 11,000 Avios |
2,000- 3,000 | 12,500 Avios | 13,000 Avios |
3,000+ | – | Unknown |
Final Thoughts
As you can see from the table above, this is obviously a devaluation. Flights will cost a little bit more than they used to. However, looking at the points required, at least it’s not THAT much of an increase. If this is the worst of the worst when it comes to British Airways, then I think it’ll be ok.
The one thing we don’t know at this point is the total cost of long haul flights. I guess we’ll have to wait for the official announcement for that one. Just based on how close the 1,151-3,000 range is to the old point systems, it probably wont be much more, if at all.
