When we first heard the news that Chase was extending sign up bonuses, I think we were all pretty excited, and I wasn’t even trying to meet one at the time. However, if you looked closely in the details, you would have noticed that there was one glaring omission. If you were going for a sign up bonus on a card like the Hyatt card, with a tiered sign up bonus, you would have been out of luck, and would have to meet them in the normal 3/6 month timeframe.
The News
Chase has extended sign up bonuses for the tiered credit cards as well. First of all, this applies to cards opened between December 31, 2019 and May 31, 2020. Secondly, the second tier is now extended by a total of 3 additional months.
Final Thoughts
One of the most exciting parts of getting a new credit card is that sign up bonus. However, in the last year or so, companies have tried hard to force customers to spend on the card for a longer period of time, hence the tiered bonuses. When it came time to extend these bonuses, I’m sure they had every intention of extending these tiered bonuses too. I just think for them, they had to figure out how to do it, but also the technical side of extending two different things on the same account. Either way, I’m glad to hear this issue has been fixed.
