Well, well, well, as expected, Chase has announced it’s Chase Freedom quarter 1 category for 2020. For those not familiar, Chase has a credit card called the Freedom. The reward structure of the Freedom is such that it earns 5% back on purchases within a certain category that is chosen by Chase. There is a $1,500 maximum on each of the quarters. So after either reaching the maximum, or if you’re spending outside of the category, will only earn 1%.
The Q1 2020 Category
Chase has announced the categories for 2020, any spending inside of these categories will earn you 5%.
- Streaming services
- Internet, cable, and phone services
Gas is an interesting category for Chase, as they chose it for two different quarters in 2019. For those of you out there that don’t have a ton of spending on gas categories, try and find a gas station that not only sells gift cards, but also take credit cards. This will be your key to getting the most of the quarter.
I can’t imagine you would spend a whole lot on streaming services, at least not enough to max out the quarter. Switch everything over to the Freedom for the short term, but remember to put it on a more rewarding card if you happen to have one after the Q1 ends.
Internet, cable, and phone services is an interesting one as well. It looks like combined with streaming services, Chase really wanted to start the year off with all of your online bills in the hope you would forget. If you can, see if you can prepay at least a few months in advance to get the most out of these categories.
As with any other 5% card, you’ll have to activate these offers. You can either click here, log into your account, or call the number on the back of your card. If you don’t activate these offers every quarter, you will only earn 1%. Be sure to activate before you charge a single dollar.
