How did IHG know that I was looking at picking up this card next? I was pretty bummed when their last big offer went away but I was being hopeful they would bring something back. Being a limited time offer, I’m hoping they keep it long enough for me to apply for it though.
If you can spend a total of $3,000 within the first 3 months, you’ll be eligible for 140,000 IHG points. The previous high was only 125,000 points, but also offered a $50 credit so depending on how you valued the points determines which offer is more valuable.
The IHG card comes with an $89 annual fee that is not waived within the first year with this offer. For that annual fee, you’ll earn:
- 10x on IHG Stays (+15x from the status that comes with the card)
- 2x on gas, grocery stores, and restaurants
- 1x everywhere else
In addition to that, the IHG card has some pretty useful benefits. The biggest benefit of course is the Platinum Elite status which can be used to leverage other reward programs as well. If you redeem points for 4 nights, you’ll get one of them for free. Additionally you’ll receive a 20% discount when purchasing points, up to a $100 statement credit for Global Entry/TSA Precheck.
Of course, there’s also the free night certificate, which is good for a hotel costing up to 40,000 points. If you can spend a total of $10,000 within a card member year, you’ll receive an additional 10,000 points.
When it comes to all time offers on the IHG card, it’s pretty tough to decide. The last big offer to make a lasting impact was the 125k offer. While not as many points it offered up to 40x on IHG stays and 4x on every other purchase for a year. Depending on how you value the IHG points, that 4x could be pretty useful, especially because you had that offer for an entire year. This offer will get you more points through the sign up bonus, but you don’t get anything crazy as far as your point multipliers. If you don’t really plan to use this card for regular spending, then this could be a pretty great offer to have.
