As much as I may not want to admit it, Southwest is actually one of my favorite domestic airlines. Not only do they offer relatively cheap fares, but they also allow you to have a bag for free. That is something that no other airline is doing, especially with the way every other airline is fee-hungry.
If you also share my love for Southwest, you may want to pay attention to the new offer on the Southwest Rapid Rewards Plus card.
If you are interested in the Southwest Rapid Rewards Plus card, it will now offer a $200 statement credit after the first purchase and 40,000 points after spending $1,000 within the first 3 months.
This card comes with a $69 annual fee that is not waived within the first year. The card earns 2x on all Southwest purchases and 1x everywhere else. Holding this card allows its cardholder to get 2 free checked bags as well as 3,000 points every single year.
Hard to say how I feel about this offer. On one hand, it’s not the all time high bonus, but that offer also required 5 times the spend in order to get it. So in that sense, it’s probably a good move. However, the most important thing to consider with any Southwest card is the Companion Pass. The Companion Pass requires 125,000 points earned within a year. In that sense, the 40,000 points doesn’t really help you.
If you were considering picking up the Southwest card just because, the $200 is a nice incentive. If on the other hand, you want to prioritize the Companion Pass, I would skip this offer. At least wait until it’s closer to the end of the year!
What do you think about this offer? Are you going to pick this one up, or wait until it’s closer to the end of the year for the sweet Companion Pass? Let us know down in the comment section below!
