Discover Adds Ability to Redeem Points for Gas and Restaurants

We’ve written plenty about how some credit card companies are making things more convenient and more accessible to their customers recently with the coronavirus changes. However, we haven’t really heard about Discover doing too much. That is, until now.

The News

Discover has added the ability to redeem your Discover IT Miles on gas and restaurant purchases. The way this works is similar to the way redeeming the points for travel goes, where you charge a qualifying charge, and you’re given the option to “erase” that charge with your points.

Final Thoughts

I think a move like this makes the absolute most sense. With travel being in limbo right now, it only makes sense to make it easier to redeem some of your points. With this change, any gas and restaurants, as well as travel can be erased. While not a groundbreaking change, I think this is a real positive one for the cardholders.

What do you think about a change like this? Are you planning to use your points to “erase” some charges on your Discover IT Miles? Let us know down in the comment section below.
