American Express is the sole issuer of the Hilton Hotel credit cards. The important thing to keep in mind with American Express is their once in a lifetime rule. What that means is that you can usually only earn the sign up bonus on each credit card one time in your life. That doesn’t mean you can’t get approved for the card again, just that you wont receive the sign up bonus, even if you complete the spend requirement.
Hilton has 3 different credit cards through American Express, the Hilton Honors ($0 annual fee), the Ascend ($95), and the Aspire ($450). The normal sign up bonus on the Hilton Honors credit card is 75,000 points when after spending $1,000 within the first three months. However, with this specific offer, it looks like there is no lifetime language written in the terms. This means that you could technically be eligible to earn the bonus again.
As I’ve said before, there is an ideal strategy to working around American Express’ once in a lifetime rule, especially when it comes to the Hilton credit cards. This is through the option of upgrades! Ideally you would signup for the Hilton Honors, upgrade to the Ascend, and then upgrade again to the Aspire. Of course, upgrading the card will take a year or so before you see the upgrade offer.
Regardless, if you are thinking about this strategy to get points for all three Hilton cards, this is the absolute best time to do so. While there is not an increased sign up bonus offer, not having the lifetime language is (in my opinion) even better. Even if you don’t plan on using the card too often or upgrading it, at the very least, this is the $0 annual fee card, so you’re not out of pocket for this.
