As the holder of a travel related credit card, what do you when you aren’t able to travel right now? Without those travel related benefits, does the travel orientated credit card still make sense? Honestly, most of them don’t. So, what is Marriott doing? Well, giving you an extra incentive for you to use your credit card of course!
The News
For both American Express and Chase Marriott cards (with the exception of the Amex Marriott Bonvoy Business Card) Marriott is adding some reward categories for a limited time. From May 1st to July 31st, you’ll be able to earn 6x back for grocery stores. There is a $5,000 limit for Chase cards, and a $7,500 limit for American Express cards.
Final Thoughts
This is a move that I really think is a good idea. Realistically, outside of the free night certificates, and even the resort credit to Marriott itself, I don’t think the cards Marriott offers are all that great. With a lack of travel going on, even less spending then normal is happening on their cards. So, it only makes sense to add in the one category that everybody is using right now, groceries! I’m curious to see if anyone will follow Marriotts lead and add in some temporary new benefits.
What do you think about Marriott adding grocery spending to their card? Would this persuade you from using your Marriott card at your local store? Let us know your strategy in the comment section below!
