With a new calendar year, comes a new opportunity to earn the Southwest companion pass. The Southwest companion pass is probably the best possible form of companion fares that you could possibly get. So long as the original pass holder books a flight, the designated companion can get that same ticket for just the cost of taxes and government required fees. While the ideal strategy requires that you pick up the business credit card first, this is a great way to ensure you pick up the companion pass after the fact.
The previous all time high offer was 60,000 Rapid Reward points for spending a total of $2,000 within the first three months. Now, we are seeing the all time high bonus of 75,000 points, however, it is a tiered sign up bonus that is broken down as follows:
- 40k points for spending 1k within 3 months
- 35k points when spending $5,000 within 6 months
This offer is available on all of the Southwest personal cards. This offer is available until February 18th, 2020.
Although I haven’t personally ever gotten the Southwest Companion Pass, the idea of of it is truly something special. I can see why so many people try their absolute hardest to get it. The strategy of course requires that you pick up a business Southwest card first, meet the spending on that, and then going for the personal card. That restriction being a product of Chase’s 5/24 rule of course.
Still, this new offer makes it pretty easy to get the companion pass, so long as you can meet the required spending for both business and personal. This offer isn’t around for long though, so if you’re interested in the Companion Pass, this is a great opportunity.
