What is In My Wallet: June 2019

Remember how last month I said that I always have a trick up my sleeve to keep things interesting? This month is no different! I know this streak of good luck can’t last forever, but I do want to ride out any sort of luck I have in the mean time.

Update

Since it’s been 6 months since i last applied for a credit limit increase from American Express, I figured I would try and ask for more. I did get another credit limit increase! However, it really wasn’t much of an increase at all. It was a small bump from $23,500 to $25,500.

At this point in the game, I don’t expect a 3x credit limit increase because that would be laughable. However, I was expecting maybe a $5,000 or so increase, at least that would get me close to $30,000! Oh well, I am still happy about it, as I’m up past $25,000 on a card which is a new accomplishment.

Cards In My Wallet

  1. Chase World of Hyatt
  2. Chase Sapphire Reserve
  3. Amex Blue Cash Preferred
  4. Discover IT NHL
  5. Chase Freedom

Strategy

  • Spend every penny on World of Hyatt

We are continuing to spend on the World of Hyatt credit card. It’s been about 3 months since I applied for the card, so I would be bumping up against the first tier of the sign up bonus. Lo and behold, I’ve past that threshold. I’ve still got a long way to go, but at the very least, I can slow down a little bit. I’ve got 3 more months to spend another $3,000. No other card is really seeing any use if I’m being honest. It’ll stay that way until I meet the sign up bonus.

Next Card

After looking more into it, I think the next card I get absolutely has to be the IHG card. I just think that its low price and high benefit potential is not all that common. It will still be some time before I can apply for this card, but I think it’ll be worth it.

Final Thoughts

If I’m being honest, the World of Hyatt card is pretty fun to use, it’s a simple design, but there really isn’t anything else like it in my wallet, so it’s pretty distinguishable. I do love how rewarding the card is, and I think you could argue that you could use this as an everyday card, if you want a combination of cash back and points.

I’m a little bummed I didn’t get more of a credit limit increase on the American Express card. Maybe Im nearing the top of a plateau as far as my credit is concerned? Either way, I’m happy I got something. We’ll have to wait until December to see if that’s the case.
